Beschreibung

Das griechische Theater gehörte zu einem unmittelbar angrenzenden Asklepios-Heiligtum. Seine Erbauung wird in das 3. Jh. v. Chr. datiert. Die kleinen Dimensionen führten zur nicht allgemein akzeptierten Deutung als Odeion. Seine cavea lehnt am Akropolishang, wurde aber zusätzlich unterfüttert. Ein unterer Teil ist in 5 Kerkides mit dreizehn Sitzreihen untergliedert. Auf den Wänden der seitlichen analemmata befinden sich die Inschriften zweier Proxeniedekrete und von 31 Freilassungsurkunden. Auf den diazoma sind weitere 14 Freilassungsurkunden eingraviert. Von der griechischen Bühne sind nur geringfügige Reste erhalten gewesen, die Front der römischen Bühne, des pulpitums, war mit den auch sonst üblichen Rundnischen dekoriert. Die scaenae frons besaß 3 Tore in rechteckigen Nischen, von den darübergelegenen Bauteilen ist wenig bekannt. Reste von Skulpturen belegen die figürliche Ausstattung der Bühnenfront, namentlich sind eine bekleidete weibliche Gottheit, eine Statue im Typ der Großen Herculanerin, eine Panzerstatue und ein Portätkopf des Agrippa bekannt. Vom postscaenicum sind Ansätze ausgegraben worden.
